Universal Apps in Windows 10 can now have Insider rings

New information about Universal Apps designed for the Windows 10 platform has revealed an interesting change. Microsoft announced a few days ago that the Groove Music app now has Insider rings just like the operating system itself has. The ability to have "Insider rings" is not limited to the built-in Windows apps.
Developers building apps for the Windows 10 platform will be able to create special builds of their Universal apps which can target certain builds of Windows 10. For example, they can target only those users who have installed Windows 10 build 10586.228 or only those who are on build 14328.

This ability will be helpful for developers to test their applications in various scenarios before making them available to the general public. The idea is to make it possible to have separate release channels for apps without having to make a separate Store page for a beta version of the same app. This will also make the Windows Store better organized and less cluttered.

However, "Insider ring" apps still have to go through the Windows Store certification process, like regular apps. This may slow down the beta version release cycle for apps, since every new version will have to be reviewed. Microsoft claims this is a necessary step for the Store to keep users secure.
