Microsoft is releasing a new version of the Skype Insider Preview app. Skype for Desktop for Windows 8.42.76.55 and the Store app version 14.42.54.0 are available for download.

The new Skype Preview app has a very streamlined user interface. It follows the modern trend of flat minimalist design with glyph icons and no borders anywhere. This design is being used in all other Microsoft products.

Skype Insider Preview version 8.42.76.55

Version 8.42.76.55 features a set of new settings in Call Joining mode.

When you're joining a group call, you can now change your video and mic settings before hopping in. Not only can you enter with your video off, but when you turn your video on, you can also turn on Background Blur before you even hop on the call.

The app will now remember your settings. When you join calls with the same settings multiple times, the app will automatically select those same toggles for you.

Skype for Windows 10 version 14.42.54.0

The Insider Preview version 14.42.54.0 of the Skype for Windows 10 app features a set of global hotkeys. You no longer need to bring Skype to the foreground to reject calls, or toggle between muting yourself and unmuting. To reject incoming calls when other applications are in focus, simply use the Ctrl+E shortcut. While in a call, you can use Ctrl+M to toggle between mute and unmute, and use Ctrl+E to end your call.

These hotkeys will be automatically enabled in your updated Insiders build. To turn them off, you can disable the appropriate option under Settings.

The app can be installed from the Microsoft Store.
