After a month of testing, a bunch of new Skype features land in the stable version of the app. The new release, Skype 8.62, adds cool things like call background presets, a bigger participant grid on Desktop and mobile, and message sync improvements.
As you may remember, some time ago Microsoft had switched to Electron for Skype. Skype 8.62 is also based on Electron, thought the transition from UWP to Electron was not smooth.
The new version comes the following changes.
Improved calling experience
Skype on Desktop now allows using one of the predefined backgrounds for calls, and also allows uploading your custom backgrounds.
The updated grid view allows seeing up to 12 participants during the call session on Desktop, and up to 9 people on the mobile.
Other fixes and improvements
Microsoft has improved message sync when some conversations weren't updating, as well as made a few general improvements.
The new version is available on Windows, Android, Mac, Linux, and Web.
