Remove Share Context Menu in Windows 10

Starting with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the operating system got a new context menu entry, Share. It replicates the appropriate Ribbon command. If you click it, it displays the Share pane which can be used to send the selected file to any installed app which supports the sharing contract. For example, it can be Skype. If you find no use for this command, here is how to remove it.

Note: The Share context menu command first introduced in Windows 10 version 1709 "Fall Creators Update". If you find this command useful, but you are running Windows 10 Creators Update, you can add this command to the context menu manually as described in the article Add Share Context Menu Command in Windows 10. There are a couple of interesting tech details there, so I suggest you to read it as well. You can also add it to the Quick Access Toolbar.

Starting with Windows 10 build 16232, the Share command is available on the Share tab of the Ribbon interface and in the context menu of File Explorer:

If you want to remove it from the context menu, here is how it can be done.

To remove the Share context menu in Windows 10, do the following.

1. Open Registry Editor.
2. Go to the following Registry key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Blocked

   Tip: see How to jump to the desired registry key with one click.
   If you don't have such a key, just create it. In my setup, the subkey "Blocked" did not exist, so I created it myself.

3. Create a new string value here named {e2bf9676-5f8f-435c-97eb-11607a5bedf7}. Leave its value data empty as shown below:
4. Now, restart the Explorer shell or sign out and sign in again to your user account.

The modern Share context menu item will disappear.
