Quick Machine Recovery options are now in Windows 11 Settings

The latest Dev and Beta channel Insider builds of Windows 11 now include a dedicated Quick Machine Recovery page. The QMR feature is designed to automatically fix common boot issues. Earlier, Microsoft was made it possible to test it, but testing required to activate QMR manually from console. Now, interested users can use a GUI for changing the options.

Advertisеment

Part of Microsoft’s Windows Resiliency Initiative, QMR detects problems during startup and applies fixes using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE). If a critical failure occurs, the system connects to the internet, sends diagnostic data to Microsoft, and receives targeted updates via Windows Update - reducing downtime and the need for manual troubleshooting.

So,

  • Quick Machine Recovery allows users to restore their PC to a previous state without needing external recovery media (like USB drives) or relying on cloud backups.
  • It is particularly useful for recovering from critical system issues, such as failed updates, corrupted files, or other software-related problems.

You'll find the new option in Settings > System > Recovery. There is a new button saying Quick Machine Recovery.

By clicking it you'll reach a new page that offers several options.

The available options are as follows.

  • Enable or disable the Quick machine recovery feature.
  • Continue searching if a solution isn't found
  • Look for solutions every 30 minutes. The interval can be set by the user to a different value.
  • Restart every 180 minutes  - you can adjust this interval, too.

The page is available out of the box, so you do not need apps like ViVeTool to make it visible. However, it doesn't save its options yet. Microsoft keeps them pre-configured to test it properly.

Quick Machine Recovery is an optimized and efficient way to restore your Windows 11 system to a working state, combining local system tools with online patches during boot. It simplifies the recovery process and improves system stability, making it easier for users to recover from crashes without extensive technical knowledge and save time.
