Out of band Patch KB5070773 for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 Released

Microsoft has released out of band cumulative update KB5070773 for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 (builds 26100.6901 and 26200.6901). The company deploys such updates only when a problem demands immediate attention outside its standard monthly release schedule. It comes with the following important fix:

Fixed an issue where USB devices such as keyboards and mice stopped working in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) after installing cumulative update KB5066835, released October 14, 2025. This issue prevented any recovery options from being used in WinRE. Please note that USB devices continue to function correctly in the Windows operating system.

The bug was introduced in the most recent Patch Tuesday update KB5066835.

Therefore, Microsoft has released an out-of-band update to address this critical issue. Otherwise, more and more devices may become stuck in WinRE, refusing any user interaction. Nowadays, USB devices are the most common, and modern systems rarely have other ports for inputting peripherals. Microsoft is restoring the recovery feature before the issue affects more systems.
