Some users of OneDrive have recently received an email notifying them about upcoming changes to their cloud storage policy. Starting from October 16, 2023, photo albums will be counted separately against the storage quota.
This means that each image within the albums will consume additional space in the cloud. In simple terms, if a photo is present in both the gallery and three different albums, it will now occupy four times more space than before.
Once this change takes effect, certain users may experience difficulties using Outlook. This also affects syncing data to OneDrive, or backing up files due to sudden space limitations in their cloud storage. To mitigate this issue, Microsoft advises users to check their cloud storage prior to the specified date. Users should clear up space by deleting duplicate photos and large email attachments.
In addition, Microsoft has made a commitment to temporarily increase the cloud storage capacity for users who exceed their quota, but this offer will only be valid for one year. Subsequently, customers will need to consider opting for paid OneDrive plans.
