Microsoft has confirmed another issue in the Windows 11 2022 Update (version 22H2) that may cause some users to experience issues using Windows Hello, which is responsible for face and fingerprint recognition, and PIN authentication. The problem does not affect users who set up Windows Hello before updating to Windows 11 2022 Update.
Due to the broken Windows Hello system, users are forced to use a password from their local profile or from a Microsoft account.
To safeguard users from the bug, Microsoft has set a compatibility hold (ugprade block) on devices using Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security. The Windows 11 2022 update will not be offered to devices until a fix is available and tested by Microsoft.
The Health Status pages says the following:
Signing in using Windows Hello might not work as expected after upgrading to Windows 11, version 22H2 on devices using Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security. Windows Hello using face, fingerprint or PIN might be affected. This issue might be encountered on devices which already have Windows Hello when upgrading but should not happen on devices which enable Windows Hello after upgrading or installing Windows 11, version 22H2.
If you're already experiencing this issue, then you can install the optional cumulative update KB5017389 (build 22621.608). It includes a fix for the issue with Windows Hello. The changes form that patch must be included in today's cumulative update.
The issue with Windows Hello continues the line of bugs that Windows 11 2022 Update is suffering from. There are issues with printing, large file copy bug that causes performance degrades, and compatibility issues with Intel SST. Finally, it has issues with RDP and provisioning.
