Microsoft has updated the list of known issues for Windows 10 version 1909. The company added a warning about two popular anti-virus products, Avast and AVG. Both apps may prevent the OS from being upgraded to Windows 10 version 1909 if you have an old app version installed.
Microsoft maintains a list of known issues for Windows 10. With every new release, some issues become resolved, while newly discovered issues are appear in the list.
Microsoft considers certain issues critical, e.g. if they affect performance and stability of your PC. Often, an outdated driver version may prevent Windows 10 from its normal work.
If your Windows 10 PC has an outdated version of Avast or AVG, you will see the following:
For Avast, the warning appears if you have installed Avast 19.5
or lower.
For AVG, the version number that triggers the upgrade block is also 19.5 or lower.
Microsoft states that Windows 10 version 1909 and version 1903 are affected by this issue. The list of affected products looks as follows.

- Server: Windows Server, version 1909
- Server: Windows Server, version 1903
So, to get Windows 10 version 1909 successfully installed, do the following.
Before updating to Windows 10, version 1903 or Windows 10, version 1909, you will need to download and install an updated version of your Avast or AVG application. Avast and AVG include the following support articles:
Microsoft doesn't recommend that you do not attempt to manually update using the Update now button or the Media Creation Tool until a new version of your Avast or AVG application has been installed and the Windows 10, version 1903 or Windows 10, version 1909 feature update has been automatically offered to you.

It’s kind of upsetting that Microsoft forces updates on everyone eventually. And now this says if a driver is installed, Microsoft won’t allow Windows 10 to be updated…
Can this somehow be exploited so someone can install a driver or make Microsoft think the “bad” driver is installed and then they never have to worry about surprise upgrades? Maybe when they are ready to update, they can just uninstalled the “bad” driver and allow Microsoft to update.
No wonder avast is blocking windows 10 1909. It’s a piece of junk! Windows folder broke, high cpu usage from avast just after updating to 1909. Removing avast just makes the microsoft antispyware waste twice as much cpu as avast. Honestly, I don’t know how 1909 passed beta.
