Microsoft has confirmed that installing the October 2025 cumulative updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11 may cause some devices to boot into BitLocker recovery mode. The issue is known to primarily affect devices with Intel processors that support Connected Standby technology (now known as Modern Standby).
The company states that the issue may affect Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, as well as Windows 10 version 22H2. IT administrators in organizations can resolve the issue using Group Policy deployed through Known Issue Rollback (KIR).

BitLocker is a Windows security feature that encrypts drives to prevent attempts to steal user data. Typically, a computer enters BitLocker recovery mode after hardware changes or a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) update to restore access to protected data.
