Microsoft today released the October 2016 update for Windows 10 virtual machines for Universal Windows Platform app developers. The company has been releasing pre-configured VMs for developers for a while and now all of them come with all the latest updates for the OS itself and pre-installed developer tools. These virtual machines can be used with Hyper-V, Parallels, VirtualBox and VMWare.
The updated evaluation Enterprise VMs will now expire on January 17, 2017 but you can also get a license for the Professional version. However, you'll need a genuine Windows 10 Pro product key.
As a reminder, all of the updated virtual machines are coming with these tools:
- Windows 10 Enterprise Evaluation, Version 1607
- Visual Studio 2015 Community Update 3 (Build 14.0.25425.01)
- Windows developer SDK and tools (Build 14393)
- Microsoft Azure SDK for .NET (Build 2.9.5)
- Windows Bridge for iOS (0.2.160927)
- Windows UWP samples (October 2016 Update)
- Windows Bridge for iOS samples
- Bash on Ubuntu on Windows
