Mozilla Now Allows Extension Rollback for Firefox

Developers on addons.mozilla.org (AMO) can now roll back their extensions to a previously approved version. This feature responds directly to community feedback and targets critical post-release bugs that demand urgent resolution. When a newly released version contains serious issues, developers no longer need to rush a fix, submit it, and wait for review. Instead, they can instantly disable the faulty release and revert to a stable, previously approved version. This rollback requires no new code submission if a reliable prior version exists.

Firefox automatically checks for add-on updates once every 24 hours. Users running the recalled version will receive the rolled-back version during the next scheduled update. This process applies unless the user has disabled automatic updates via the Add-ons Manager.

The rollback function works for any extension with at least two approved versions on AMO. Developers can republish the desired prior version under a new version number using the Developer Hub or the Add-on Submission API.

For self-distributed add-ons, developers may roll back to any previously approved version, regardless of release order. If the immediately preceding version also contains bugs, developers must prepare and submit a new fixed version through standard AMO channels.
