Mozilla is releasing a new Firefox version to the stable branch. Firefox 80 is notable for having a new blocklist of add-ons, improved security, and the ability to set it as the default PDF viewer on Windows.
What's new in Firefox 80
Add-on blocklist
Firefox includes a special list of extensions which are blocked by default. It includes problematic extensions and malicious add-ons that may affect your Firefox browsing in a bad way.
The updated blocklist in Firefox 80 requires less time to load and parse. Mozilla has documented it here.
Security improvements
It is now possible to disable or enable the security warning when some information is submitted from an insecure page (HTTP) to a secure context. The browser includes an about:config option for that, named security.warn_submit_secure_to_insecure
.
Appearance
- Animations are reduced for users with reduced motion settings.
- The number of Alt-Tab previews was increased from 6 to 7.
PDF Reader
The built-in PDF reader in Firefox can now be registered as your default PDF viewer in Windows. It is now possible to make the browser handling PDF files. It is worth mentioning that I have such option starting in Firefox 77.

Testing Firefox 80 on Arch Linux. I usually run ESR on Firefox. Curious about the hardware acceleration that is new to Firefox 80 on Linux. Works on my computer. Intel Graphics.
To turn it on:
about:config and search vaapi and true.
