Microsoft has revealed the upcoming open beta testing of the Recall feature for Windows 11. In October of this year, owners of Copilot+ PC devices with Qualcomm ARM processors will be able to try out the new feature. In November, access to the feature will be expanded to systems equipped with the latest Intel and AMD chips.
In the coming months, access to Windows Recall will be provided to participants in the Windows Insider program. The exact date of the public release of the feature has not yet been announced, but Microsoft has promised to provide additional information soon.
The Recall feature is exclusive to devices certified as Copilot+ PCs, since it requires a neural processing unit (NPU) with a performance of at least 40 TOPS. The latter is required for local processing of artificial intelligence tasks. The Copilot+ PC label is assigned to laptops built on Snapdragon X, AMD Ryzen AI 300, and Intel Core Ultra 200v series processors.
Microsoft has recently announced security improvements made to Windows Recall, focusing on addressing potential vulnerabilities and safeguarding user data privacy. Its data is now secured in a VBS Enclave, making it inaccessible to third-party apps and users. Additionally, snapshots will automatically exclude sensitive information such as passwords and credit card details. Microsoft makes emphasis on that Recall does not upload any data to the cloud and can be easily uninstalled if you choose not to use it.
