Microsoft: TPM 2.0 will always remain a mandatory requirement

Microsoft has stated once again that the company will keep the minimum system requirements for Windows 11 intact, stating firmly that these will not be relaxed. They emphasize that the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 is essential for ensuring the security and future advancement of Windows. Therefore, its inclusion is non-negotiable.

Tomorrow. TPM 2.0 also helps future-proof Windows 11. One way it does so is by helping to protect sensitive information as more AI capabilities come to physical, cloud, and server architecture. The long-term benefits of enhanced security contribute to more than one of your compliance goals. It prepares you for evolving regulatory standards and industry best practices.

Steven Hosking , Senior Product Manager, Microsoft.

In a blog post, Microsoft detailed how TPM integrates with Windows 11 security features like Credential Guard, Windows Hello for Business, and BitLocker. It also powers Secure Boot, which protects the boot process from any unauthorized changes. TPM 2.0 is a "non-negotiable standard for the future of Windows."

Additionally, Windows 11 requires support for virtualization-based security and Hypervisor-Protected Code Integrity (HVCI), meaning that Windows 11 is officially only compatible with devices based on processors released since 2018.

  1. Its crazy for Microsoft ignored those older Intel and AMD CPUs with POPCNT instruction which are not listed in their website, like my R3 2200G and even motherboards with built-in TPM 2.0 does Windows 11 needed for. And mostly, Windows 11 2024 IoT Enterprise LTSC make TPM 2.o optional.

  2. I wish people would shut up about TPM 2.0 already. TPM is not the issue. Many older CPUs support TPM 2.o, yet Microsoft still refuses to support said CPUs. Lack of support CPUs such as 7th gen Intel is the actual problem.
