Microsoft to retire the “Continue on PC” feature and apps next month

Back in 2017, when Microsoft released Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the company introduced a novel app called "Continue on PC." It allowed quick web page sharing from mobile devices to Edge on Windows 10. Yesterday, Microsoft pushed update 1.9.5 and informed users about the impending end of support for "Continue on PC" next month. Here what the update description says:

Thanks for the memories! Continue on PC is going away. As of July 27, 2021 Continue on PC will no longer be supported. We thank you for allowing us to be part of your link sharing experience.

Continue on PC works by integrating into the browser's sharing menu. You could tap the share button and select Continue on PC to send a web page directly to your computer. With the latest updates to Edge on desktop and mobile platforms, Continue on PC becomes redundant. Microsoft Edge now has a built-in tab sharing capability that allows you to send a page from one device to another with a single tap without installing additional software.

Recently, Microsoft started rolling out the tab sharing feature to all Edge Stable users. If you are not familiar with that feature, be sure to check out our dedicated guide that shows how to send a tab to another device in Microsoft Edge.

The only downside to the new tab sharing capabilities in Edge is that sharing works in Microsoft Edge only. By integrating into the device's share menu, Continue on PC allowed users to send links from any browser on mobile devices.

Still, it was a somewhat clunky experience that required pairing a phone with a computer, and poor reviews in the App Store and Google Play Store only prove that statement. In Microsoft Edge, sharing tabs across devices works much better, simpler, and more reliable.
