Microsoft to Offer Consumers an Extra Year of Windows 10 Updates for $30

As you may remember, Microsoft ends support for the Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, but the company will continue to release security updates under the Extended Support Updates (ESU) program on a paid basis. Unlike Windows 7, regular users, not just corporate clients, will be able to join the program.

Microsoft has announced that regular Windows 10 Home and Pro users will only be able to count on one additional year of security updates. The cost of an update subscription will be $30. It is important to note that updates under the Extended Support Updates (ESU) program will not include new features, bug fixes, or technical support for the product.

According to Microsoft, enterprise customers will be able to receive updates for Windows 10 for three years after the end of official support. A business subscription is significantly more expensive than a consumer subscription:

  • $61 per device for the first year
  • $122 per device in the second year
  • $244 per device in year 3

To receive the updates, you have to get a separate subscription key for each computer on which you want to receive security updates after October 2025. If an enterprise customer wants to join the Extended Support Updates program after one or two years, they will still have to pay for the missed years of updates.

Microsoft is urging users to upgrade to Windows 11 rather than purchasing security updates through the Extended Support Updates (ESU) program.
