Microsoft is developing a new feature for Windows 11 that introduces haptic feedback during trackpad interactions with on-screen interface elements. Microsoft began exploring this enhancement as early as 2022. The goal is to make operating system interactions more intuitive and natural.
Reportedly, the feature targets devices equipped with precision haptic trackpads, including the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Laptop Studio. When activated, actions such as snapping windows to screen edges or dragging files will trigger subtle vibrations.
As discovered by @phantomofearth, the functionality (a work in progress) exists in most recent Windows Insider Dev & Beta builds.

The associated settings description, Haptic signals, states: “Feel subtle vibrations when you snap windows, align objects, and more.” Users will have the option to adjust the intensity of the haptic response to suit their preferences.
Microsoft is going to make the haptic feedback feature fully optional. Users who prefer to work without tactile cues can disable it entirely through system settings.
