Microsoft released an update for the new Microsoft Store app on Windows 11. Version 22107.1401.6.0 brings several user experience improvements and various "under the hood" changes. According to Rudy Huyn, principal architect at Microsoft Store, the latest update improves the installation experience, media, ratings, and reviews.
Also, sharp-eyed users spotted a redesign review-publishing UI.
By default, Microsoft Store automatically downloads and install updates in the background. Still, you can force the app to get the latest version by manually checking for updates. Learn how to install app updates in Windows 11 here. Note that Microsoft will restart itself if you try to download and install an update manually.
Although Microsoft announced the new Microsoft Store alongside Windows 11, the company plans to release it on both Windows 11 and Windows 10. We do not have the exact launch date, but Microsoft promised to release Windows 11 "later this year," probably during the fall. Several leaks and hits from Microsoft itself point to a potential October 2021 release. Microsoft will ship the new Store together with Windows 11.
Apart from drastic redesign with some questionable and straight weird-looking changes, the refreshed Microsoft Store brings some groundbreaking policy changes. Microsoft now invites all developers to publish their apps, browsers, even third-party stores in the Microsoft Store. Moreover, they are free to use their CDNs, payments systems, unpackaged apps, etc. Such a radical turnaround for a previously strict marketplace is already paying off. Major developers, such as Adobe and Firefox, have already announced plans to push their projects to Microsoft Store.
