Microsoft announced that they rename its Windows Virtual Desktop service to Azure Virtual Desktop, and announced several new features to improve the hybrid desktop experience.
As the name suggests, Azure Virtual Desktop allows users to run virtualized Windows instances in the cloud, allowing them to connect to them from virtually anywhere. Simply put, you can access your work files and applications remotely, not just from the office.
Azure Virtual Desktop new options and pricing
As for the novelties, Microsoft has announced improved support for Azure Active Directory (AAD), which will soon appear in the public preview. This means that in the future it will be possible to easily connect Azure Virtual Desktop VMs to AAD. Moreover, virtual machines can be automatically connected using Microsoft Endpoint Manager. The company says that in the future, the service will receive support for single sign-on technology, FIDO2 authentication and other features.
It will also soon be possible to manage Windows 10 Enterprise multi-session virtual machines using Microsoft Endpoint Manager. This feature allows you to manage virtual machines in the same way as shared physical devices. This feature is currently in testing.
QuickStart
Microsoft is improving and simplifying the migration to Azure Virtual Desktop. Specially, users will soon have the new QuickStart option, which will allow them to deploy the required virtual machines in a few minutes.
Prices
Finally, Microsoft has introduced a new pricing option for Azure Virtual Desktop. Organizations will be able to migrate to a monthly per-user option, allowing them to provide access to the software in the cloud as a streaming service for third parties. Moreover, each user will independently pay for access to the service.
The new pricing option will fully launch on January 1, 2020. And from July 14 to December 31, 2020, companies will be able to make apps available to third-party users for free. Starting January 1, you will need to pay $5.50 per month for access to applications per user. If you need access to the desktop, then the amount will be $10 per month.
