Microsoft postpones Windows Recall testing until December

Senior Windows Insider Program Manager Brandon LeBlanc has revealed that public testing of the Windows Recall feature has been delayed until December 2024. Earlier, the Redmond firm was about to start it this November.

Sadly, this is not the first time when the software giant delays the feature. Initially, Recall was supposed to be released on June 18 together with the start of sales of Copilot+ PC devices.  But due to security issues, the release was postponed indefinitely, and the start of public testing was scheduled for October. But these plans were never destined to come true.

We are committed to delivering a secure and trusted experience with Recall. To ensure we deliver on these important updates, we’re taking additional time to refine the experience before previewing it with Windows Insiders.

The delays are due to a major overhaul of the Windows Recall security system. The company has made the feature optional and intends to provide users with the ability to completely remove Recall from the operating system. The developers have also implemented encryption of the Recall database, and authentication via Windows Hello is now required to access the data.
