Microsoft Photos app now features AI-powered Relight and Search

Microsoft is rolling out an updated Photos app, version 2025.11060.5006.0. It is now available to Windows 11 Insiders in all channels. The new version includes several new AI-powered features for Copilot+ PCs.

Relight - a Lighting Change Feature

The Relight feature lets you control the lighting in your photos by placing up to three light sources, adjusting their color, and specifying a focal point where all the lights will be directed.

It provides brightness and intensity controls for fine-tuning. The options also include built-in presets with ready-made lighting styles that you can apply with one click.

This feature turns complex lighting setup into an intuitive visual process, suitable for both correcting poor lighting and creating creative effects.

Note: Relight is currently available on Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs. Support for AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs will be coming in the next few months.

Improved Photo Search

Microsoft is making it easier to find photos by implementing improved Windows semantic search. Now you can find the images you need by describing them in natural language, such as "sunset on the beach" or "family outdoors." You no longer need to remember exact file names or search for photos by date, time, or file type.

Please note that improved search works with photos from your Pictures library that are stored locally and have been indexed.

Entra ID Support for Restyle Image and Image Creator

Enterprise users signed in with a Microsoft Entra ID can now use the Restyle Image and Image Creator features. Previously, these tools were only available to personal Microsoft accounts.
