Microsoft Edge gets major feature updates every four weeks. These updates usually bring helpful features and quality improvements, but they often annoy users by resetting settings and changing search engines. Moreover, users recently accused Microsoft of messing with third-party browsers after a Windows update changed the default search engine in Chrome from Google to Bing.
If you are sick of Microsoft shoving Bing down your throat, there is bad news for you. The software giant has figured yet another way to force Edge users to open Bing.
Microsoft Edge will soon get yet another questionable feature that lets you follow favorite creators directly in the browser. Preview versions of Edge have a dedicated following page, where you can track updates from YouTubers and various websites.
Recently, Microsoft changed how the browser handles YouTube links in the following pane. Instead of opening YouTube directly, Edge now launches Bing and uses Microsoft's search engine to find the video you want to open. Needless to say, Microsoft gives zero bits about what search engine you prefer. You should use Bing!
It is sad to see Microsoft's desperate attempts to force-impose its services. Such user-hostile practices only make people hate Microsoft and its god-forsaken search engine more. Also, Microsoft shoots itself in a leg by ruining and bloating Edge with unnecessary and annoying changes.
It took Microsoft less than two years to ruin a solid alternative to Google Chrome. At one point, users will jump off Edge to Firefox, Vivaldi, or any other browser that at least tries to respect its users and their choices.

Advertisеment
I was in here writing in another news thread about Edge. I’ve been really angry at Edge lately. It went so far that I removed it from Windows 11 on test. Unfortunately, it caused major problems in the oprative system so I do not recommend doing so.
Hardened Firefox is the way to go! If you don’t want to do the work yourself, there are user.js to Firefox (several). For example, from pyllyukko or arkenfox. Search and you will find it. Try it on a different profile in Firefox first. It can block things you want to access. It’s always good to have multiple profiles anyway. Add a cheap RPi with Unbound for DNS and Pi-hole. You are a little more protected on the internet.
