Microsoft has lifted a compatibility safeguard that previously blocked devices with integrated cameras from installing Windows 11 version 24H2. The hold addressed a bug that caused application freezes when using face or object detection features through the integrated camera. The problem affected multiple camera-dependent functions, including the Windows Camera app, Windows Hello facial recognition sign-in, and other applications relying on integrated camera hardware. Microsoft first acknowledged the issue in October 2024, noting that affected devices might encounter disruptions in these scenarios after upgrading to the 24H2 release.

Safeguard ID 53340062 Now Lifted
The update block, identified by safeguard ID 53340062, prevented installation of the Windows 11 2024 Update on impacted systems. Microsoft has now removed this restriction following resolution of the underlying compatibility issue.
Eligible devices without additional safeguard holds can now receive Windows 11 version 24H2 through the Windows Update release channel. Microsoft advises that the update may take up to 48 hours to appear and recommends restarting the device to potentially accelerate availability.
The company also urges users to install the latest security update, which includes critical fixes and improvements.
Next month, the Redmond firm is expected to issue Windows 11 25H2 to the public. It took pretty long for Microsoft to close the release blocking bugs for 24H2. In this situation, many users may prefer to go directly with its successor.
