Microsoft announced at Ignite 2021 a mixed reality collaboration and meeting solution called Mesh for Teams. As the name suggests, this technology is built on top of Microsoft Mesh and is integrated with Microsoft Teams.
With this solution, users will be able to create virtual avatars and immersive workspaces (metaverse), so that they can work in a unified virtual environment with an immersive experience. You will still be able to chat, share documents, and connect other tools to Teams.
Initially, Mesh for Teams will simply replace you with a digital avatar during video conferencing. As a result, users don't have to worry about how they look in real life. Teams will use your voice to determine if your avatar's lips should move. In the future, it will be possible to use the camera to track the movements of the head and facial muscles in more detail, which will make the avatar more realistic.
Later, meta-universes will be created that will allow users to interact with each other in a more natural way. It will be possible to use several predefined spaces, or create your own for deployment in the organization.
It is reported that the preview version of Mesh for Teams will begin rolling out in the first half of 2022. Microsoft says the solution will be available for PCs, mobile devices and mixed reality headsets.
