Microsoft has updated 190 000 own devices to Windows 11

When Microsoft released Windows 11 last year, the company put a lot of effort into updating the devices of its employees. According to Lukas Velush, more than 190,000 corporate devices at Microsoft have been migrated to Windows 11. The upgrade process was "the smoothest" in Microsoft's history.

A seamless transition to Windows 11 is made possible by good application compatibility. There is no need for a large number of disk images. Finally, the Redmond firm polished deployment tools in Windows 10 era with its huge number of cumulative updates.

Reportedly, Microsoft still has a number of devices still not upgraded to Windows 11. Those do not meet the minimum system requirements.

Windows 11 has specific hardware requirements, and a percentage of our devices were not upgraded. The employees with these devices will continue to run Windows 10 in parallel and get a Windows 11 device at their next device refresh.

Microsoft has automated the Windows 11 upgrade process with the Windows Update for Business Deployment Service. This service allows the company to selectively disable updates and manage exceptions. Also, it allows rolling back the device to Windows 10 on demand.

Microsoft considers the update to Windows 11 a success. According to Velush, they didn't see an increase in help desk calls, achieved widespread adoption across the company. It was the fastest rollout in Microsoft's history.
