Microsoft has revised system requirements for Windows 10

Windows 10 system requirements which Microsoft officially stated initially were not changed for a long time. For Windows 8 and Windows 7 too, the system requirements were not increased. However, for the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update, also known as Redstone 1, system requirements have been raised by Microsoft.

From now on, Desktop editions of Windows 10 require at least 2 GB of RAM. Earlier, this requirement was specified only for 64-bit versions of Windows 10 while the 32-bit version could be used with 1 GB of RAM.

OS architecture RAM requirement
32-bit >= 2 GB
64-bit >= 2 GB

Most modern PCs come with at least 2 GB of RAM, so most of them should easily meet these new requirements.

Another interesting change is that the minimal screen size for Windows 10 Desktop has changed. According to the new changes, now Windows 10 Desktop can be used on devices with a 7" screen. This includes tablets which are able to run Windows 10 Desktop, convertibles and so on.

As for Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft now allows running it on devices with up to a 9" screen. This can help OEMs bring new devices to the market.

  1. They haven’t changed the system requirements. They are simply telling OEMs that, from now on, their Windows 10 PCs should have a minimum of 2 GB of RAM instead of 1 GB so that users can benefit from a smoother and faster machine.

    Windows 10 itself still only needs 1 GB of RAM to run. This should be obvious since it only applies to new PCs.

    1. As expected, Microsoft fanboys are here.
      The sh** you wrote exactly means “changed system requirements”.
      I hope they will give you a free license for your hard @ss licking work.

      1. If the ability to read makes me a “shill”, then so be it. The MSDN article provided as source of the changes clearly states:

        “The goal of this specification is to enable OEMs, ODMs, SoC vendors, and other component vendors to make early design decisions for devices and computers that will run Windows 10.”

        Nothing changes for people already running Windows 10 on their PCs with 1 GB of RAM.

        1. You are not a shill but what Microsoft *has* done is changed the OS itself so it now runs comfortably only with 2 GB RAM. Sure 1 GB of RAM will allow you to run it but the performance won’t be optimal.
