Microsoft has released new patches to resolve security vulnerabilities in Intel CPUs. The updates are now available for number of supported Windows 10 versions.
The updates were released on November 10, and affect the following Intel products:
- Avoton
- Sandy Bridge E, EN, EP, EP4S
- Sandy Bridge E, EP
- Valley View / Baytrail
The patches are:
- KB4589198: Intel microcode updates for Windows 10, version 1507
- KB4589210: Intel microcode updates for Windows 10, version 1607 and Windows Server 2016
- KB4589206: Intel microcode updates for Windows 10, version 1803
- KB4589208: Intel microcode updates for Windows 10, version 1809 and Windows Server 2019
- KB4589212: Intel microcode updates for Windows 10, version 2004 and 20H2, and Windows Server, version 2004 and 20H2
- KB4589211: Intel microcode updates for Windows 10, version 1903 and 1909, and Windows Server, version 1903 and 1909
The following vulnerabilities were fixed in today's microcode udpates.
- CVE-2020-8695
- CVE-2020-8696
- CVE-2020-8698
None of the CVEs include details on what was actually vulnerable. The details are "reserved by an organization or individual that will use it when announcing a new security problem. When the candidate has been publicized, the details for this candidate will be provided. "
The packages can be obtained from the Microsoft Update Catalog website. For some select products (CPUs) they may be available through Windows Update. In this case, patches will be downloaded and installed automatically.
