Microsoft has released out of band updates for Windows 11 to fix shutdown issues

Earlier this week, Microsoft released cumulative updates for supported versions of Windows, which has once again caused problems for users. The patch update KB5073455, released on January 13, 2026, for Windows 11 version 23H2, causes devices with System Guard Secure Launch enabled to restart instead of shutting down or hibernating. Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server have also experienced connection and authentication issues with remote access applications such as Windows Apps, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Windows 365. To resolve these, Microsoft today released unscheduled updates KB5077744 and KB5077797.
