Microsoft has ended support for Windows 10

October 14, 2025 marks the end of support for the Windows 10 operating system. Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, new features, or technical support for Windows 10.

Devices running Windows 10 will continue to operate without immediate changes. However, the absence of regular updates will increase vulnerability to viruses and malware. Microsoft strongly recommends upgrading to Windows 11 where feasible.

Advertisеment

If you're not ready to upgrade to Windows 11 yet but still want to receive security updates, the paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) program is available.

Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU)

Home Users

Home users who wish to continue receiving security updates may enroll in the paid Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. This program provides security updates for one additional year, until October 14, 2026. A single Windows 10 ESU license covers up to ten devices linked to the same Microsoft account. The cost is $30.

Free alternatives exist. Users may enable system settings synchronization with their Microsoft account via the Windows Backup app. Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) automatically receive updates through the Windows 10 ESU program upon signing in to their Microsoft account. Alternatively, users may redeem 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points for a subscription.

Enterprise Clients / Customers

Corporate clients receive different terms under the Windows 10 ESU program. Security updates remain available for three additional years. The annual subscription cost doubles each year, resulting in a total cost of $427 per device over three years:

  • $61 per device for the first year
  • $122 per device for the second year
  • $244 per device for the third year

Each computer requires a separate subscription key. Clients who join the program after the first or second year must pay for all prior years of missed updates.

Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC)

The end of support does not apply to Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) editions, which serve specialized equipment such as industrial or medical systems. Support end dates for these editions are as follows:

  • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 – January 2027
  • Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 – January 2032
  • Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019 – January 2029
