Microsoft Edge will soon allow removing features you never use

The upcoming change will allow you to disable extra features in Edge. The browser has a wide range of options such as a password manager, sidebar, and Bing integration. However, some users find certain components to be "bloat". That's because they are considered redundant and slow down the browser. Consequently, Microsoft is experimenting with the ability to remove those extra features from Edge, which can improve performance.

Since Edge's relaunch in 2019, Microsoft has introduced numerous features, including security, shopping, and web search tools. However, some of these features feel unnecessary/redundant. For example, there is a very specific thing like the crypto and NFT wallet.

Remove optional features from Microsoft Edge

In the latest Microsoft Edge Canary version, there is a section where users can add or remove optional features. It was first spotted by Leo Varela(@Leopeva64), and it shows the option to remove the "cite this" feature. The latter is designed to assist students in citing information.

It remains unclear how much of the extra options will be removable in the future. The section refers to "optional features," indicating that essential Edge components are unlikely to be removable.
