Microsoft has announced that its Edge web browser has achieved a significant improvement in performance. It now features the global average of First Contentful Paint (FCP) below 300 milliseconds. This improvement, as per Microsoft, is the result of months of optimization efforts.

The Redmond firm has done a research that shows that delays exceeding 300–400ms are noticeable by the user, especially for the page first open. It may annoy the user a lot. Now, Microsoft ensures that Edge users experience minimal lag with their browsing experience.
Performance Enhancements in Detail
Since the last public update, Microsoft reports an average reduction of 40% in load times across multiple browser components. The enhancements include performance improvements in Settings, Read Aloud, Split Screen, and Workspaces. All of those demonstrate significantly improved startup and navigation speeds.
- Settings: The settings interface loads and responds more quickly.
- Read Aloud: Startup time for AI-driven reading functionality has been reduced, supporting smoother playback across additional languages and voice profiles.
- Split Screen: Users benefit from near-instant switching between windows and tasks, reducing perceived latency during multitasking.
- Workspaces: Opening pages and navigating work environments feels more immediate and fluid, contributing to a more productive workflow.
The Future
Microsoft has stated that further optimizations will be rolled out in upcoming updates, targeting additional areas such as Print Preview, Extensions, and other frequently accessed modules. The optimizations will become available for all supported platforms.
Users are encouraged to test the latest version of Microsoft Edge and provide feedback via the integrated reporting feature. You can access it from Settings and more > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
