What's new in Microsoft Edge 141

New Adobe-Powered PDF Viewer Now Default for Enterprise

Microsoft Edge 141 (version 141.0.3537.57) introduces the Adobe-powered PDF viewer as the default experience for Windows enterprise users. This transition, rolling out over the coming months, enhances performance, accessibility, and compatibility while delivering enterprise-exclusive capabilities. Administrators retain control through the NewPDFReaderEnabled policy for Edge and the NewPDFReaderWebView2List policy for WebView2 applications.

Local Network Access Security Feature

Edge 141 includes a new security measure that restricts websites from sending requests to local network servers without explicit user permission. A prompt appears when a site attempts such a connection, safeguarding user privacy.

This feature currently remains disabled by default but will become enabled by default starting in Edge 143. IT administrators can manage this behavior via dedicated policies.

New Features and Updated Options

Refined “Clear Browsing Data on Close” Behavior

Edge 141 modifies the “Clear browsing data on close” setting to exclude passwords and form autofill data from automatic deletion. These options no longer appear on the settings page but remain manually clearable via the “Clear browsing data” interface. Other data types—including history, cookies, and cached images—continue to clear as configured. Enterprise policies remain unaffected by this change.

Live Video Translation Now Available

Edge 141 adds Live Video Translation, enabling real-time audio translation of foreign-language videos. The feature requires a minimum of 12 GB RAM and a quad-core processor and is available only in select markets. Administrators can enable or disable it using the LiveVideoTranslationEnabled policy.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat Control for Edge for Business

A new policy, Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled, gives administrators exclusive control over the visibility of the Copilot chat icon in the Edge for Business toolbar. The previously used HubsSidebarEnabled policy no longer affects Copilot’s display.

Tab Preview Hover Customization

The ShowTabPreviewEnabled policy now allows administrators to determine whether users see a preview of tab content on hover. If enabled or left unconfigured, Edge displays tab previews by default.

New and Deprecated Policies

New Policies Introduced

  • LiveVideoTranslationEnabled – Controls availability of video translation.
  • OriginKeyedProcessesEnabled – Enables origin-based process isolation for enhanced security.
  • RelaunchFastIfOutdated – Triggers a quick browser restart if the current version is outdated.
  • ShowTabPreviewEnabled – Manages tab preview display on hover.
  • WebRtcPostQuantumKeyAgreement – Activates post-quantum key agreement for WebRTC connections.

Deprecated Policy

  • GamerModeEnabled – Previously used to enable game mode; now outdated.

Bug Fixes

Edge 141 resolves an issue where a UI Automation (UIA) element incorrectly referenced itself as a child, leading to timeouts and memory consumption problems.
