Microsoft Edge 131 is available

Microsoft has released a new version of its Edge browser. The stable channel now hosts Edge 131, and comes with several improvements, fixes and new policy changes.

Highlights

• Cancel dialog for beforeunload event. Microsoft Edge changed the behavior of the cancel dialog for the beforeunload event. Calling event.preventDefault in a beforeunload event handler won't prevent the dialog from being shown. Instead, event.returnValue = '' needs to be called in the beforeunload event handler to prevent the cancel dialog. The BeforeunloadEventCancelByPreventDefaultEnabled policy is obsolete and no longer works after Microsoft Edge version 130.
• Changes to Kyber. The Kyber algorithm was standardized with minor technical changes and renamed to the Module Lattice Key Encapsulation Mechanism (ML-KEM). ML-KEM is implemented in the BoringSSL cryptography library, which allows for it to be deployed and utilized by services that depend on this library.The changes to the final version of ML-KEM make it incompatible with the previously deployed version of Kyber. Due to this incompatibility the following changes in Microsoft Edge will be made:
  • Edge switches from supporting Kyber to ML-KEM.
  • Edge offers a key share prediction for hybrid ML-KEM (codepoint 0x11EC).
  • The PostQuantumKeyAgreementEnabled flag and the PostQuantumKeyAgreementEnabled policy applies to Kyber and ML-KEM. Note: The PostQuantumKeyAgreementEnabled policy is scheduled for removal in Edge version 141.
  • Edge will no longer support hybrid Kyber (codepoint 0x6399).
• New sidebar policy. The EdgeSidebarAppUrlHostAllowList policy allows admins to define a list of sites, based on URL patterns, that are not subject to the EdgeSidebarAppUrlHostBlockList. When the policy is configured, the apps listed in the allow list can be opened in sidebar even if they are listed in the block list. For more information, see Manage the sidebar in Microsoft Edge.

• Resolved an issue where browser would crash when refreshing the wikipedia.org webpage on Android.
• Fixed an issue where browser would crash on startup after an upgrade installation on Android.
• Fixed an issue when switching to any search engine would cause browser to crash on iOS.
• Resolved an issue where browser crashes when playing media and closing the previous window.
• Resolved an issue where browser would crash when opening a new InPrivate tab from the app's contextual menu or widget on iOS.

Changed Behavior

• Resolved an issue where ‘news.naver.com’ would not automatically launch after media playback.
• Fixed an issue where the account switching sheets did not match the design when browser needed to switch to AAD upon opening a link from Outlook.
• Resolved an issue where the refresh icon was not centered within the clickable region in the Game Assist browser.
• Resolved an issue where the shortcut icon was truncated on the ZIP page in portrait mode during a search.
• Fixed an issue where the Overflow Menu would not appear after using the ‘Send to Devices’ feature for the first time.
• Fixed an issue where the focus indicator was not visible on the ‘Home’ control in the Chat Bar when using the Tab key in Copilot.
• Resolved an issue where Sidebar apps were pre-installed for new users in Gamer Mode.
• Fixed an issue where the wallpaper was enlarged on the New Tab Page.
• Resolved an issue where the New Tab and Edit icons in the tab group showed the same tooltip as the tab group name.
• Fixed an issue where the media indicator was not displayed correctly after playing media in two windows and pausing one of them on YouTube.com or other sites.
• Resolved an issue where the Top Sites were misaligned when switching to portrait mode and then returning to the New Tab Page while accessing feeds in landscape mode.
• Fixed an issue where hovering over icon buttons in high contrast mode made the icons less visible in the Downloads section.
• Resolved an issue where the Address bar’s fill color did not update to reflect theme changes.
• Fixed an issue where the ‘Sort by’ and ‘View by’ groups under Favorites were incorrectly defined as Menu items.
• Resolved an issue that extended the Tab Center to the very top of the window in both restored and maximized modes.
• Resolved an issue where the return, close, and pin buttons were abnormal when in Dark mode under favorites.
• Resolved an issue where browser displayed a white screen after restarting in Split screen mode.
• Resolved an issue where pressing Enter in the search box should move the focus to the first result with an appropriate announcement under downloads.
• Resolved an issue when clicking anywhere on the NTP page was unresponsive after selecting 'Page Layout' in split screen mode.
• Resolved an issue where the page titles of favorites and history were not displayed in the dropdown menu within the Game Assist browser.
• Resolved an issue where clicking on links sometimes opened them in the desktop browser instead of within Game Assist.
• Resolved an issue where the stamp function could draw incomplete graphics directly on the border in screenshots.

Mac

• Resolved an issue where browser opens without FRE and becomes non-functional on Mac.

Android

• • Resolved an issue where the ‘Undo’ function would not restore a deleted tab in browser on Android and desktop.
  • Fixed an issue where two ‘Share’ buttons would appear on the toolbar when visiting any website on Android.
  • Resolved an issue where the avatar would display a ‘no-sign’ icon when scrolling up and down the web page on Android.
  • Fixed an issue when clicking the ‘Personalize’ button would automatically open a feed on a new NTP page on Android.
  • Resolved an issue where the 'Dark Reader' extension was not selected during the extension FRE process on Android.
  • Resolved an issue when switching between horizontal and vertical screen modes caused the NTP interface to display abnormally on the new tab page on android.
  • Resolved an issue where the selection indicator was unclear for the no border UI style under top sites on Android.
  • Fixed an issue where Talkback announced the ‘x’ button as ‘unlabeled’ in the ‘Notifications’ pane under the browser’s Account Menu on Android.
  • Fixed an issue where the shopping UI remained visible on Android after being opened and the system's return button was pressed.

iOS

• • Resolved an issue where Top Sites and feeds would momentarily shift up and then return to their original positions when opening a new tab in landscape mode on iOS.
