Microsoft Edge 125, currently in Beta, introduces a feature to limit RAM consumption. There is now a new option in Setting that allows you to determine how much RAM the web browser can use in games or for content tasks. It is located under System and Performance > Performance Management.
The new option allows you to set limits on PC RAM consumption for gamers and in general, and also provides users with the opportunity to optimize the resources of their computer to reduce the load.
Users can allocate a minimum of 1 GB for the Edge browser, with the ability to increase the limit in 1 GB increments.
Microsoft points that setting this option to a minimum value can significantly affect browser performance and make it slow. If Edge reaches the specified limit, it will try to reduce memory consumption, which will lead to page reloads and hibernation of tabs.
It is worth noting that the browser already has an “Efficiency Mode”, which automatically tries to minimize the consumption of computer resources. It may be sufficient for many modern computers.
Microsoft did not explain when the RAM limiter will appear in the stable version of Edge.
