Microsoft discontinues support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in Windows 11

Microsoft has made an announcement regarding Windows 11, stating that support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol versions 1.0 and 1.1 will be discontinued. This decision is driven by security concerns and the limited number of users utilizing these protocols. Starting next month, Insider builds of Windows 11 will have these protocols disabled by default. It's important to note that this change will also apply to all upcoming versions of the Windows operating system.

Disabling the mentioned protocols will definitely break some apps that rely on them. MS SQL Server 2012, 2014, 2016, ACDSee 2018, and specific versions of the Adguard software are just a few examples.

Users will have the option to manually enable TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 on demand. But this should only be done if all other solutions have failed to resolve the issue.

Microsoft emphasizes that resorting to legacy versions of TLS should only be considered as a temporary workaround. It is recommended for software developers to implement support for newer versions of the protocol.

Furthermore, it is possible that TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 may be completely removed from the OS in the future.
