Microsoft has confirmed that the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool no longer works on devices powered by Arm64 processors following the release of Windows 11 25H2, also known as the Windows 11 2025 Update. Users on affected systems encounter the error message: “We're not sure what happened, but we're unable to run this tool on your PC.”

The problematic version of the tool is 26100.6584, which is released on September 29, 2025. It fails on Arm64 hardware. Microsoft clarified that while the Media Creation Tool does not support generating installation media for Arm64 devices, it should still allow those devices to create media for x64 systems.

Workaround and Impact Assessment

Microsoft stated that the issue is unlikely to affect most users, citing the rare use of this feature on Arm64 devices. As a temporary solution, the company advises users to run the Media Creation Tool on systems equipped with AMD64 processors, where the utility remains fully operational.

Windows 11 25H2 Now Generally Available

Microsoft announced the general availability of Windows 11 25H2 on Tuesday. This update shares its core platform with Windows 11 24H2 and deploys via an enablement package (eKB). Once installed, it activates a suite of enhancements previously rolled out incrementally over the past year.

The Windows 11 2025 Update enables several new capabilities, including improved Copilot functionality, a modernized Windows Hello interface, and Copilot+ PC-exclusive features such as Recall (in preview) and Click to Do. Check out What's new in Windows 25H2.
