Today, Microsoft announced a big update to its Authenticator app and a new Autofill extension. These updates will help you keep all the passwords safe in your Microsoft Account and make them available not only in the Edge browser but also in Chrome and the apps on your smartphone.
Microsoft Autofill extension is now available on the Chrome Web Store. It works in the same way password autofill works in Edge or any other password manager extension. All you need to do is to sign in with your Microsoft Account. The extension also allows you to browse, edit, or delete saved passwords.
ℹ️For your information: Microsoft Edge does not need this extension because its features are already integrated in the browser. All you need to do is log in with your account and enable password sync. Also, the new extension should work in other Chromium-based browsers.
On your mobile device, Microsoft Autofill will make sure you do not need to remember and manually type every password in different apps. If you open an app for which there is a password stored in your account, Microsoft Authenticator will offer to fill in all the info automatically. If there is no password saved, just type in the login and password fields, and save them for later use.
Also, Microsoft officially announced the password import feature. You can now quickly move your passwords from Google Chrome or popular password managers. There is also an option to import passwords from a CSV file.
Autofill is now rolling out as an update to the Microsoft Authenticator app on both iOS and Android.
Microsoft says the password autofill feature in Chrome and mobile devices is just the beginning of their journey to provide users with simple, reliable, and free service to keep all the sensitive data intact. In the nearby future, developers will also add additional information to autofill. For example, payment info, addresses, and others.
With these updates, you can finally quit using a single password for different accounts. Microsoft Authenticator will take care of remembering different passwords and syncing them between all your devices whether it is Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, or Linux.
