With today's Canary release, Microsoft has added a new flag to Microsoft Edge that is designed to be used instead of the previous one when it comes to hiding or showing the https
and www
portions of URLs in the address bar.
With a previous build, Edge Canary 86.0.579.0, Microsoft has reverted the removal of https
and www from the address bar, and also added a flag to control it.
The flag Omnibox UI Hide Steady-State URL Subdomains Beyond Registrable Domain is actually a Chromium feature. It does not hide the mentioned elements in the address bar, and it must be used in conjunction with other flags.
Instead of it, Microsoft now uses a new flag, which is exclusive to Edge and is not available in Chromium, Chrome, and other projects.
Named Omibox UI Hide Steady-State URL Scheme, it is not set (Disabled) by default, so Edge shows https
and www
by default. If you need to hide them, set the flag to Enabled. The default configuration suits most users' needs who were unhappy with this change.

Note: Microsoft has started delivering Microsoft Edge to users of Windows via Windows Update. The update is provisioned for users of Windows 10 version 1803 and above, and replaces the classic Edge app once installed. The browser, when delivered with KB4559309, makes it impossible to uninstall it from Settings. Check out the following workaround: Uninstall Microsoft Edge If Uninstall Button is Grayed Out.
