In Windows 11, the Groove Music app evolved into a new Media Player app. Microsoft is now actively working on further improving the latter. Eventually it will be an in-place replacement for the legacy Windows Media Player. The current update is a small step closer to this direction.
Microsoft has added a new album view in version 11.2203.30.0. At this moment, is only available to Insiders starting in Windows 11 build 22598.
Previously, it could only show the albums saved in the library as a gallery view for each artist. In version 11.2203.30.0, the app got a new list view you could see in various music apps. There, you will find the full list of tracks for the selected artist, grouped by albums.
Some users may prefer the gallery view, but the new track arrangement comes in handy when you're looking for a specific song.
There's also a new hover effect, which offers extra options such as play, queue and various other actions when you move your mouse cursor over an album or an artist. Actually, this is an essential feature that the app must have in its very first release to make a good first impression.
Finally, Media Player brings back something you may remember well from your legacy WMP experience. When playing videos, you can now use brightness and contrast sliders to adjust the image look.
