Microsoft is working on a new app which is intended to replace the good old classic Paint app in Windows 10. The new version of the application will be a "Universal" app and might become available on all Windows 10 devices including Windows 10 Mobile. As of this writing, two videos which demonstrate the app in action along with the full APPX package are available.
The Paint app is one of the oldest apps which comes bundled with Windows since its first version. Considering the long history of the app, it is getting new features quite late. Some of the enhancements were made under the hood in Windows XP where it gained the ability to save PNG images without any additional filters installed. In Windows Vista, Microsoft added a crop function and increased the number of Undo actions allowed. In Windows 7, Paint got the Ribbon user interface, more useful tools, and lots of other features that we have become accustomed to these days.
Despite being a very simple app, it has enough functionality to become the favorite image editor for many Windows users. But now, Microsoft is going to replace Paint with a new, Universal Windows Platform app with the same name which is completely different. It is getting 3D objects and pen input. Leaked videos show tools like markers, brushes, various art tools to help users create objects. The app has tools to transform 2D drawings into 3D objects. Watch a video of the new Paint:
A day after Paint's videos became available online, Windows enthusiasts from Italy leaked the new Paint app's package, so those of you who are interested can sideload it and run it. According to Rafael Rivera, from whom we discovered this information, the original package leaked by WindowsBlogItalia required you to Like some page with ads before downloading it. He managed to get a clean version of the app:
Here's that Microsoft Paint .appx from @WindowsBlogIta, minus all the bullshit you have to go through to get it. https://t.co/tmwXMn7FUE

It’s sad they are retiring Win32 and think Universal Apps/Platform will save them in the mobile market.
Yeah, indeed. I also not happy with this change.
oh no!
UWP is crap
Agreed; it bring very terrible UI; the only last UI I actually enjoyed running my PCs was Windows 10 build 9901 (it was a leaked build however) with the older version of Windows even better, especially Windows 8 (yes I mean it).
All hail Gimp!
hahaha, only for those who learned its hotkeys! At least R, Tab, and Ctrl+Shift+E :)
it’s pretty cool! it creates 3D!
They lost it completely. Windows should be for professionals rather than gen F teenagers.
Whats the point of all these silly apps??
I think nobody knows the answer.
Surface Studio hints toward the answer, I think.
