Fix Mail, Calendar and People in Windows 10 10041

Microsoft had rolled an updated build 10041 of Windows 10 and made it available via Windows Update. There is no ISO image available for download, so interested users need to refer to Windows Update as described HERE. Users who have already installed it face the issue that Mail, Calendar and People apps are not opening in this build. Here is an official fix courtesy of Microsoft.

To make these apps working again, do the following:

  1. Open PowerShell as administrator. See how to run an app as Administrator in Windows 10
  2. Copy and paste this in the window:
    Get-appxprovisionedpackage -online | where-object {$_.packagename -like "*windowscommunicationsapps*"} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage -online
  3. Press the Enter key to run the command.
  4. Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the old Store app (the one with the green tile).

You are done. Credits: Windows Blog via.

  1. I followed this and others I have seen to no avail. It just does not want to install. Any suggestions?

  2. No, you are not done, cause it don’t work !!! I have done this several times , and received the same error
“something went wrong Error code: 0x80040154 ” it doesn’t matter how often you use the shell command to delete the apps , and reinstall from the Store , at the end you get the same Error. OK you’ve got something Else ??

    1. Robert, are you sure that we are speaking about Windows 10 build 10041?
It is PRETTY OLD build, the RTM build is 10240.
Any reason to discuss the old build?
