Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” XFCE and KDE – BETA release

Linux Mint 18.3 is the most recent version of the popular distro. A few days ago, Cinnamon and MATE editions of Mint 18.3 reached their stable versions. Now you can now download the beta releases of its XFCE and KDE editions. Let's see what they offer to the end user.

As you may already know, Linux Mint 18.3 has the Sylvia code name. It is based on Ubuntu 16.04.3. It features improvements to Software Manager, Flatpak support, new backup tools, a new tool "mintReport" which helps users to troubleshoot issues with the OS and a number of useful changes to the X-apps. These changes are common for all editions of Linux Mint. Here is the list of updates specific to XFCE and KDE editions.

 New features in Linux Mint 18.3 XFCE

Linux Mint 18.2 XFCE Edition

  • Notifications are better looking and more customizable than before. Themes were improved and symbolic icons are now supported.
  • The computer can now be put into a "Do not disturb" mode to prevent notifications from appearing.
  • Notifications can also be ignored for specific applications and a log is available to see notifications that may have been missed.
  • The task manager is now able to identify windows by clicking on them.
  • The terminal was updated to version 0.8.0 and it received a lot of new features.

New features in Linux Mint 18.3 KDE

This release ships with updated software versions. Linux Mint 18.2 KDE Edition
