Gradual roll-out

Default apps

  • Microsoft is making a small change to how the Default button works to set your default browser. The change is intended for users in the European Economic Area (EEA).
    • Additional file and link types are now automatically assigned to the new browser by default if they have been registered by the browser.
    • The new browser will be automatically pinned to the taskbar and Start menu by default unless you uncheck the appropriate boxes.
    • Added a separate button that allows you to quickly set the browser as the default PDF viewer if the browser has registered this capability.

Ask Microsoft 365 Copilot

  • You can now use the new Ask Microsoft 365 Copilot action to send text or images to Microsoft 365 Copilot and get a response to your query. Ask Microsoft 365 Copilot requires a Microsoft 365 license and will respect your organization's privacy policies.

Narrator

Screen Curtain is designed to enhance the privacy and focus of users using screen readers. It completely darkens the display, ensuring that only the user can hear what is on the screen, while visual content remains hidden from view. This is especially useful in public spaces or when sharing devices, allowing users to read and work with sensitive information without revealing it to others.

Advertisеment

Turning Screen Curtain on and off

    • Turn on Narrator by pressing the CtrlWin+ key combination Enter.
    • Press Caps LockCtrlC to turn on Screen Curtain.

PC Migration

  • Microsoft has started rolling out a new feature for migrating data from PC to PC running Windows. You'll see a new Start page and a pairing page in Windows Backup, giving you a first glimpse of what's coming. In future builds, you'll be able to move your files and settings from your old PC to your new one as part of the initial PC setup process. The changes are rolling out gradually.

Settings

  • The home page in the Settings app on corporate PCs managed by IT administrators now includes cards such as Recommended settings, Bluetooth devices, and a card with device information and accessibility settings. If a user signs in with both a work or school account and a Microsoft profile, the home page will have an additional card showing both types of profiles.
  • Information about the country or region that was selected during initial setup of the device has been added to the Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region section.
  • Fixed an issue where the storage card in Settings > System > About would display an incorrect symbol instead of the correct disk size.

Taskbar and system tray

  • The taskbar will now automatically resize icons, giving you quick access to more apps, even when the taskbar is full. When the taskbar starts to fill up with pinned or open apps, the icons will automatically shrink, allowing you to see more icons and potentially saving you the trouble of opening the taskbar overflow menu.
  • To adjust the scaling settings for taskbar icons, right-click an empty area of the taskbar and select Taskbar settings. In the window that opens, expand the Taskbar behavior section and select the desired option for Show smaller taskbar buttons.
    • In addition to grouping items under Accessibility, the Quick Actions window now includes text descriptions for assistive technologies like Narrator, Voice Access, and more to make them easier to find.
    • The indicator under taskbar app icons that require attention has been adjusted to be wider and more visible.
    • Fixed an issue where  WIN CTRL+ <number> did not allow switching between open application windows on the taskbar.
    • Fixed an issue where media controls in taskbar app preview windows (that support them) might flicker.

Voice access

  • Added the ability to use Voice Access to navigate, dictate, and interact with Windows using voice commands in Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
  • You can now add words to the Voice Access dictionary. This feature works with all languages supported by Voice Access.

Share dialog

  • When you try to share a link or web content using the Share feature, you will now see a preview of the content that will be sent.
  • The Share window now has the ability to select the image compression level from the options High Quality, Medium Quality, or Low Quality. Previously, a scale from 0 to 100 was offered.

Color filters

  • Adjusted the placement of the Intensity and Color Gain sliders in Settings > Accessibility > Color Filters so that the color swatches at the top of the page are visible while adjusting the sliders.

File Explorer

  • Additional changes have been implemented to improve the performance of extracting files from archives. This will be noticeable when copying and pasting a large number of files from large.7z or.rar archives.

  • Changes have been made to improve the display experience, including reducing screen flickering when changing some configurations and eliminating unnecessary display resets that occurred in some cases.
  • Fixed an issue where some displays would unexpectedly display green.

  • Fixed an issue where Japanese input using the touch keyboard might stop working after switching to and from the English layout.

MSFTEdit.dll

  • Fixed an issue with msftedit.dll that caused applications such as Sticky Notes and Dxdiag to crash for users running an Arabic or Hebrew system.

Quick Actions

  • Fixed an issue with Quick Actions where the three buttons in the top row would not respond to clicks.

Printing

Windows Hello

  • Fixed an issue where Windows Hello for Business would not automatically renew expiring certificates.

Windows Search
