Microsoft Corporate Vice President Joe Belfiore is leaving the company after 32 years with the company. He posted a statement on Twitter, and also sent out an email to the company's employees detailing his decision. He was in his position for the past two years.
Today I shared with my team that after 32 fantastic years (!) I'll be retiring from @Microsoft!
What's next? 1) I'm staying on until summer to help with the transition (SO MUCH GOODNESS COMING), then 2) focus on the two kids still at home & the 1 who just started college. :)

Joe Belfiore will reportedly remain in the team until the summer of 2023 as a senior advisor and mentor. The priorities of the Office team will not change.
Excerpts from Joe Belfiore's internal email:
“After a lot of personal reflection, I've decided that it's time for me to draw my very-long career at Microsoft to its end after 32-years of amazing experiences building software and services with all of you. This summer I went through the experience of sending my oldest off to college, which crystallized my realization around the limited time that remains for me to prioritize kids and family before the last of our crew moves out of the house."
Joe Belfiore began his career at Microsoft in 1990 as part of the Windows 95 development team. Subsequently, he has also worked on Internet Explorer, Windows XP, Microsoft eHome, Entertainment & Devices, Windows Phone, and Windows 10, including in leadership roles. In 2015, he took a year off to spend more time with his family.
After a pause in 2020, Belfiore returned to Microsoft to work in the Office Experience Group (OXO). His team is responsible for developing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Loop (app and components), Designer, To-Do, Planner, Project, Forms, Stream, Whiteboard and so on.
According to an internal email, Ales Holecek will remain as corporate vice president of the Office Product Group. Sumit Chauhan, who will report to Experiences & Devices Executive Vice President Rajesh Jha, will serve as co-leader of the group. Current VP of Product David Gainer will be promoted to Corporate VP and head of Office products.
