Install, Repair, and Uninstall MS Paint app from Microsoft Store

You can now Install, Repair and Uninstall Paint app from Microsoft Store on Windows 10.  Almost four years ago, when Microsoft Store was named Windows Store, and Microsoft used to ship Creators update releases for Windows 10, the company announced plans to move the classic Paint app to the Store. For some reason, it took Microsoft four years to complete this process. The wait is finally over, and the app is now available on Microsoft Store with a new Fluent Design icon as a cherry on top.

Paint is one of the oldest apps in Windows. Microsoft originally shipped this app with the very first Windows version in November 1985. In modern times, Paint went through several major updates and feature expansions. Microsoft even tried to replace the classic app with a modern Paint 3D version which failed to gain popularity among users. Microsoft is now removing all Paint 3D traces from Windows 10, such as the 3D Objects folder in This PC in File Explorer, and the Edit in Paint 3D entry in the right-click context menu.

Despite the fact the Microsoft initially deprecated Paint in 2017, the company has changed its intention and decided to keep it in Windows 10.  There is no sign as of now that Paint will replaced with some other app in upcoming releases.

This post will show you how to install, repair, and uninstall the classic Paint app you have installed from Microsoft Store. As the moment of this writing, the classic Paint app is publicly listed with the link, but you cannot download the application just yet as it it restricted. Still, there is a way to download classic MS Paint from the Microsoft Store. Here is how to do that.

Install Microsoft Paint from the Store

1. Open the Paint page on Microsoft Store using this link.
2. If you see the Get button, click on it, and you have it installed. Otherwise, follow the next step.
3. Open the Microsoft Store links Generator by RgAdguard.
4. Copy the following link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/paint/9pcfs5b6t72h.
5. Paste it into the text field on the RgAdguard's website, and click the checkmark button.
6. Wait for the service to generate available links.
7. Download the file with the .msixbundle extension and double-click on it to install it.
8. Confirm the installation and wait for Windows 10 to install the app.

Done. Windows 10 will create a Start menu shortcut for the newest Paint app, so you can use it to launch the app.

Uninstalling classic Paint from Windows 10 works the same way you uninstall any other app on Windows 10.

How to Uninstall the MS Paint Microsoft Store app

1. Right-click the MS Paint app Start menu shortcut.
2. Select Uninstall from the context menu.
3. Alternatively, open the Settings app.
4. Navigate to Apps > Apps and Features.
5. Find the Paint entry and click on it to select.
6. Now, click on the Uninstall button.

You are done.

Finally, you can repair or reset the classic MS Paint app. If classic Paint does not work or misbehaves, you can try resetting or repairing it using the Settings app. This procedure is the same for any app obtained from Microsoft Store. Since it now receives updates from the Microsoft Store, the appropriate options are now available for MS Paint as well.

Reset Microsoft Paint on Windows 10

1. Press Win + I to open Settings.
2. Go to Apps > Apps and Features.
3. Find the Microsoft Paint app in the list.
4. Click on it to select it, and the click on the Advanced Settings link.
5. Click the Repair button to reset the app without deleting any user data.
6. Alternatively, click on the Reset button that does the same but also removes all user data. In the case of the classic Paint app, these two buttons work identically and do not affect any file on your computer.
