Microsoft today released Edge 105 to everyone. This new stable version is focused on security and improvements made to its built-in IE mode. However, for some users the browser fails to start. If you are affected, we have a workaround for you.
The issue is caused by group policies that remain in the Registry from previous versions of Microsoft Edge.
Specially, the MetricsReportingEnabled policy appears to be responsible for the buggy behavior. This policy enables usage and crash-related data reporting. However, it had become obsolete in Microsoft Edge 89, so it should not affect the start process of the browser. Anyways, it prevents the browser from starting.
Fix Microsoft Edge 105 is not starting
- Close the browser.
- Press Win + R and type regedit in the Run box.
- Browse the Registry to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge key.
- In the right pane, remove the MetricsReportingEnabled value if you have it there.
- Now, switch to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge branch.
- Again, look for the MetricsReportingEnabled value and delete it.
Now, try to start Edge. It should work fine now.
If it is not your case, you can always try to go back to a previous version of Edge.
There is an excellent Telegram channel that hosts offline installers for all versions of Edge. Grab the one you like, e.g. Edge 104 that targets the stable branch, download and install it.

you save me, thx
The MetricsReportingEnabled under 4 was there. So I deleted it.
The same key under 6 was not there. So nothing to delete.
And yes, Edge started as before, that is to say the 105 version.
Thanks a lot.
It worked! Thank you
