How to Show Menu Bar in Microsoft Edge Chromium
One of the features Microsoft Egde lacks in the classic menu bar. Many users find it useful, and would be happy to have in this modern browser. Finally, it is now possible to have the proper menu bar in Microsoft Edge Chromium.
Being based for the most popular browser product, Chromium, Edge is compatible with its extensions, and also has its own extension store. Extensions often can be used to add missing features and options to the bare-bones browser.
Proper Menubar is such an extension created specially for Microsoft Edge. It allows having a classic menu bar below the tab bar in the browser. Besides Egde, the extension is compatible with most of the Chromium based browsers, including Opera and Vivaldi.
Proper Menubar browser extension
Proper Menubar is a lightweight productivity add-on that adds a highly configurable menu with the browser options. Its toolbar is styled to look as a classic menu row, but also supports a number of options to customize its appearance, like color, available menu options, and so on.
The default menu includes traditional menu items like save a file, copy text, select text, settings, help, etc. Also it including a window-related options like minimize, maximize, quick access to dev tools, and many other options you may find useful. The menu bar can be moved to the top or bottom of the Edge window.
In addition, the extension can add a Google Product bar. It is a special menu with quick links to popular Google products. With this menu enabled, you can open YouTube, Gmail, Maps, Drive, Calendar, and more, with a single click. It is a good addition to the favorites bar of Edge.
The extension supports changing the background and color of the window.
There is a drop shadow visual effect for eye candy.
To Show Menu Bar in Microsoft Edge Chromium,
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Navigate to the following page: Proper Menubar for Microsoft Edge.
- Click on the Get button next to extension's name.
- Confirm the extension installation.
- Congrats, you are having the classic menu bar in Microsoft Egde.
You are done.
Now, check out the available extension options and customize it according to your preferences.
Speaking about the menu contents, there is still room for improvements. The menu formed by the extension doesn't list bookmark items, and doesn't show your navigation history items. There are entries to open the bookmark manager, or open the full history page, but it is not possible to see specific entries in the menu. Here is how it looks:
This is likely to cause minor inconvenience to most users.
