Starting in Windows 10 build 21277, Aero Shake is disabled by default, but you can enable it.
Aero Shake is a window management feature in Windows that allows quickly minimizing all open windows by 'shaking' the app you want to keep active. It will remain open on Desktop, and all other windows will be minimized down to the taskbar.
Aero Shake was first introduced in Windows 7, and was available in the later Windows versions, including Windows 10. However, starting in Windows 10 build 21277, which was released to insiders on the Dev channel, the Aero Shake is no longer available in the OS. There is no option to enable it anywhere in the GUI.
Microsoft may find the feature unpopular among users, so this can be the reason for the removal of Aero Shake. If you are missing Aero Shake, and want to restore it, you can quickly do this.
This post will show you how to re-enable Aero Shake in Windows 10 after Microsoft disabled it in Windows 10 build 21277.
Re-Enable Aero Shake in Windows 10
- Open Registry Editor.
- Go to the following Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
. See how to go to a Registry key with one click. - In the right pane, create a new 32-bit DWORD value named DisallowShaking. Even if you are running 64-bit Windows you must still create a 32-bit DWORD value.
- Leave its value data as 0.
- You can now close the Registry Editor app.
You are done. The Aero Shake feature is now enabled. The following video shows its in action in build 21277.
Download Registry Files
To save your time, I've prepared a set of ready-to-use Registry files that will allow you to turn on or off Aero Shake in Windows 10 with one click. You can download them here.
Aero Shake was part of the Windows Aero interface that has long been outdated. Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 include a new design style commonly known as "Metro".
There is no doubt that Microsoft will eventually remove Aero Shake from Windows 10 completely, and the above Registry tweak won't work. So, if you are affected, please leave a comment with your Windows 10 build number and version.

Just not working at all. This info is also available elsewhere but is not resolving at all the problem of aero shake not working anymore. Unfortunately.
I can’t understand why Microsoft has killed this. It was possible to disable for people who didn’t like it, but for people like me, we found it extremely useful.
