How to Disable Suggested Actions in Windows 11

You can disable suggested actions in Windows 11 if you find them annoying. They are intended to save your time when you copy some phone number or date. You can make are call or schedule an appointment with their help. But if there are not your tasks, suggested actions may be annoying.

Starting in build 25115, Windows 11 supports a new feature - Suggested Actions.  It works as follows.

When you select and copy some text in a format that Windows can recognize, it will show you a small pane that you can use to do a related action directly. For instance, if you copy a date or time, it will offer you to create a new calendar event. If you copy a phone number, you will be able to make a call. The actions appear in a small dismissable flyout.

The Suggested Action flyout includes the apps that can perform anything useful on the copied data. For a phone number it will include Teams, Phone Links, and other suitable apps. For date or time, it will include Calendar, Outlook, and so on.

If you are not happy how it works, you can disable Suggested Actions in Windows 11. Do it as follows.

  1. Open the Settings app; for that press Win + I.
  2. Select System on the left, and then click on the Clipboard on the right.click on the Clipboard

  4. You now close the Settings app.

You are done. If you change your mind at any moment later, re-enable the option reviewed above to enable the Suggested actions back again.

Alternatively, you can apply a Registry tweak. It will be of help if you are automating users' seat, e.g. deploying settings. Also, it will allow you quickly change settings on multiple PCs by using a REG file.

Turn off Suggested Actions in the Registry

  1. Press Win + R and type regedit in the Run dialog to open the Registry editor.
  2. Navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SmartActionPlatform\SmartClipboard key.
  3. To the right of the SmartClipboard key, create or modify a 32-bit DWORD value named Disabled.Turn off Suggested Actions in the Registry
  4. Set the Disabled value to 1 to turn off Suggested Actions. Otherwise, set it to 0.

Download REG files

Click this link to download two REG files in a ZIP archive. Extract the downloaded archive to any folder of your choice.

Now, double-click the Disable_Suggested_Actions.reg file to turn off the suggested actions feature. You may see a User Account Control prompt. If so, confirm it by clicking on Yes.Disable Suggested Actions in the Registry

The other file included in the archive is the undo tweak. It will allow you to quickly re-enable the suggestions. Simply open Enable_Suggested_Actions.reg and confirm UAC.
